Before coming to Canada, visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.html to learn all that you need to know about the requirements for visiting our country. To help in the preparation process, here is a brief summary of some of the key documents you will need:
PASSPORT
You will need a valid passport, proof of who you are, or other travel documents, depending on which country you are coming from.
VISAS
Some visitors may require visas. For those who do, it is recommended that you apply early.
- Temporary Residents Visa (TRV): Visitors from certain designated countries who visit Canada for a temporary purpose such a business trip will need a Temporary Residents Visa (TRV). You can check to see if you need a TRV at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.html. If you do, please submit your application for a Temporary Resident Visa to Visit Canada to a Visa Office at a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate (see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/offices/missions.html for a list of Visa Offices abroad).
Information about how to apply (including an application package) is available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/visa.html. Prior to submitting your application, contact the Visa Office to see if you need to fill out any additional forms or provide any additional documents. To allow adequate time for processing, applications for TRV must be filed at a Visa Office well in advance of the intended visit.
- U.S. Transit Visa (USTV): Current U.S. guidelines require that all travellers flying via United States airports from non-Visa Waiver Countries must have a valid U.S. visa, even if they are transiting directly to a connecting flight. (see http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1261.html for a list of Visa Waiver Countries) Please note that the list of Visa Waiver Countries for the U.S. may differ from Canada's visa exempt countries. It is recommended that participants who need a U.S. visa allow plenty of time to obtain the necessary USTV if their travels to Canada will take them through the United States. For further information on U.S. visa requirements and procedures, please visit http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html.
Conference participants will not need a Canadian Transit Visa (CTV). A CTV is only required by persons who need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), who travel through Canada to another country, and who stop in Canada for less than 48 hours.
VISA FEES
Since the Government of Canada is one of the organizers of the CITRA conference, participants who need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to enter Canada will not have to pay the CAN $75 fee for processing their TRV application (see Part 19, Division 2, Section 296, Exemption (2)(e)(i) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations).
