Canada is proud to host the 40th CITRA conference in the city of Québec from November 11 to 17, 2007, and Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to welcome participants from around the world. This years conference, Cooperation to Preserve Diversity, is being organized jointly between Canada and the International Council of Archivists, including conference working groups and other events which will take place between November 9th and 18th. Library and Archives Canada is working closely with Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec and the local organizing committee to make the conference a success.
CITRA offers a unique opportunity to showcase the work being done by LAC and other information institutions to preserve our documentary heritage in all its forms, and to demonstrate how LAC works in collaboration with individual departments to manage vital federal government records. It is extremely fitting that CITRA has been recognized as one of the activities leading to the 2008 celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city of Québec, underscoring the key role that archives play in supporting historical commemorations and preserving the stories of a nation. CITRA will also precede the 40th anniversary of the Association of Archivists of Quebec.
